Exploring the Brain Milky Way

12 million light years separate these two pictures.

On the right is a picture of Orphan stars that don't belong to any galaxy, discovered by the Hubble telescope in 2008. On the left is one of our latest picture of a new population of neurons that don't belong to any textbook. After 5 years of work we finally have rock solid evidence that these new neurons exist in mice, rats and even human. The most unexplored territories are within ourselves.

Big thanks to Molly Brennan and to Dr. Laura Tan, the master of radioactive in situ hybridization from the Salk Institute for this latest experiment.
